Aquastretching is an aquatic activity that is based on stretching exercises.

What exactly is aquastretching?

This is a form of aquagym which aims to stretch the muscles to gain flexibility and mobility. Aquastretching is mainly based on relaxing the body and breathing.

Aquastretching is a water sport that is practiced in a pool where you are submerged up to the waist or to shoulders. Water will make stretching easier and therefore make them fuller.

Also called aquastretch, aquastretching affects all muscles and all joints from the body. This activity can be practiced for prevent the onset of pain or for the relieve.

How does an aquastretching session take place?

A session lasts on average between 30 and 45 minutes during which you perform different stretches. The courses are collectives and you are guided by a coach.

You use different accessories like boards, fries or balloons. In particular, they help you to float and to be more stable on certain movements.

You obviously start with yourself warm up quietly, doing light exercises.

Aquastretching exercises

Once the warm-up is complete, you move on to the exercises. The goal is to contract the muscle and then stretch it while it is warm.

Each exercise will focus on different areas. You will focus on:

  • THE shoulder blades
  • THE lumbar
  • There upper back
  • THE thighs
  • THE calves
  • THE ankles

 

For example, you will perform exercises such as plank on the back. You position a fry below your knees or behind your neck and straighten your legs. It's a movement that comes stretch your lower back.

The importance of breathing

You will also be required to carry out breathing exercises. The aim is to help you better control in order for you release more easily.

You focus on the phases inspiration and expiration to control your breathing. It is also a way to help you gain amplitude on stretching, while exhaling you can go further.
