With aquaboxing, boxing in water is possible ! All you have to do is put on foam boxing gloves made for aquaboxing and the class can begin.
Aquaboxing is a variation of aquagym and body combat where you perform movements inspired by combat sports while being immersed up to your shoulders.
This water sport is accessible to everybody and perfect for gently toning up while taking care of your cardiovascular system.
Aquaboxing: what is it?
Aquaboxing, also called aquapunching Or aquatic boxing, is a sport that is practiced in water and is inspired by combat sports (boxing, karate, etc.).
Without contact, a bit like shadow boxing, you box against the water of a swimming pool or pond. You are then immersed up to your shoulders or waist.
The resistance of the water requires more effort from your body to carry out the movements, so you burn a lot of calories.
To practice aquaboxing, you can go to a fitness center, an aquatic center or a municipal swimming pool.
How it works ?
With aquaboxing you achieve series of movements and displacements.
You send kicking, of the punches, all in jumping and in moving. All blows are allowed to knock out the water: feet, fists, elbows, knees.
To do aquaboxing, you only need your swimsuit and of foam boxing gloves.
These boxing gloves are loaned to you, but you can easily buy your own. It is also common to swap gloves for foam dumbbells.
Aquaboxing uses your whole body. Whether it's legs, abs or even shoulders. All your muscles are put to work.
Coaches are there to give you simple movements to be continued. Take your pace and mimic their gestures.
The only challenge of aquaboxing is to succeed in repeating all the series of the session.
Aquaboxing: how does a session go?
An aquaboxing session lasts on average 45 minutes. It may seem short, but you will have plenty of time to work out!
The aquaboxing sessions are done in the form of a collective lesson in music And guided by a coach.
First of all, we warm up
You start, as always, by warming up. Out of the water and in the water, you make different movements that allow you to prepare your joints and muscles.
On the menu: knee raises, heels-buttocks, arm movements, etc.
The technical phase
Once the warm-up is complete, you will begin to see the different aquaboxing movements : punches, kicks, knee strikes, etc.
Then, the sequences begin! Let yourself be carried away by the music and follow the coach's movements: hooks, squats, uppercuts, kicks, etc.
The faster you do the movements, the more complicated the water resistance will make your task. So, to burn as many calories as possible, let go!
Cool down and stretch
Once you have finished all the sequences, you finish with gentler movements. This allows you to lower your heart rate and finish the session in complete peace.
And to finish in style, you take a few minutes to stretch before returning to the locker room.
How to do aquaboxing at home?
If you have a swimming pool at home you can totally do aquaboxing on your own!
To do aquaboxing at home, you can easily find courses on YouTube. You will just have to follow the movements of the video.
And if you really like to do everything yourself, mix different boxing moves with exercises like the squats, of the scissors, etc.
