Summary

Inspired by the body pump, aquapower is a variation of aquagym who wants to be more tonic and more dynamic.

Practiced in a swimming pool, this discipline allows you to tone your figure all in improving your cardiovascular endurance.

In the form of group lessons guided by a coach, you use bars, dumbbells and other accessories to let off steam in the water!

Aquapower: what is it exactly?

Aquapower is an aquatic sport inspired by body pump sessions. You mix muscle strengthening exercises and cardio movements while being in the water.

What is the body pump?

Often practiced in a fitness room, it aims to strengthen the body's muscles and takes the form of group classes guided by a coach.

During the class you perform different rhythmic choreographies to music. You use bars, dumbbells and step to perform the chorea exercises.

Aquapower is practiced in a basin (in fairly deep water) where you are submerged up to the shoulders.

Added to water resistance different accessories as :

  • Dumbbells
  • Bars
  • Weighted boots
  • Fries

 

Water seeps into these accessories and allows you to add more resistance when performing the movements. And the faster they are, the more effort you have to exert to do them!

How does an aquapower session take place?

Aquapower is exercised during rhythmic group lessons in music And guided by a coach. Sessions last on average between 30 to 60 minutes.

Warming up

An aquapower session always begins with a 5 to 10 minute warm-up to prepare you for the effort.

You do a few movements quietly: chasing steps, crossing steps, running on the spot, etc.

The session

Once the warm-up is finished, you start doing the exercises using the accessories. On the menu :

  • Arm movements
  • Scissors
  • Jumps on the spot
  • Pulling and pushing exercises fitness inspired

 

There are of course other exercises, but the goal remains the same, strengthen the whole body (upper and lower body) and put your cardio to the test!

Once the course is completed, you finish gently with stretching.

Like most water sports, aquapower is a good way to return to sport gently if you are coming out of an operation or injury.

The good news is that this activity is also suitable for pregnant women !

However, if you have heart problems, Or respiratory, you will not be able to not practice aquapower.

Where to do aquapower?

This is a practice which continues to develop in France, but which is not yet very well known. You can still look at:

  • Fitness clubs
  • Aquatic centers
  • Private or public swimming pools

 

For a session, count around €10 or even €20.
