No, there are no good or bad metabolisms! There are slow metabolisms and fast metabolisms. To find out what metabolism you are made of, read on.

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that take place within a living being to ensure two essential activities, namely:

  • Keeping the organism alive, that is to say allowing breathing, the heartbeat, nourishment of the brain, digestion, etc. We then speak of basal metabolism.
  • Increase the energy requirement necessary for the proper functioning of the body during physical exercise. We are talking about active metabolism.

One is permanent while the second is deployed only during effort but both respond to the same functioning which differs depending on the person, hence the slow/fast distinction.

Roughly speaking, a fast metabolism burns a lot of calories quickly, while a slow metabolism does not. So, even if we adopt the same diet as the neighbor, who lost 3kg in 1 month, if our metabolism is slow, we will not achieve the same result, at least not at the same speed (not fair !). But then how do I know what metabolism I have and why?

Fast metabolism

A fast metabolism is characterized by fine bones. Gaining weight is difficult for you since your metabolism burns calories quickly. You are made for endurance sports.

But be careful, if you eat without gaining too much weight today, your body shape may change over the years...

Slow metabolism

If you are robust and square in nature, you have a slow metabolism. You tend to gain muscle and mass quickly if you combine it with regular physical training. You are powerful. Anaerobic, that is to say “explosive” sports are made for you. You burn few calories. This is why the evening meal is decisive: what you eat in the evening will be stored overnight. Favor starchy foods and avoid fatty foods.

How can I increase my basal metabolism?

If age and hormones tend to inevitably slow down metabolism over the years, it is possible to modify it through diet and physical activities. By moving more while eating in a way that is not too restrictive. In fact, it is by eating that we lose weight.

If you do not bring food, your intestine is empty and your body will not increase its metabolism knowing that there is no energy reserve in the digestive tract.
